glossaryCavity Space - The space between the top surface of the substrate, to the bottom of the pavers. Level - To make flat. Paver - Precast concrete or stone slab used as surface decking material. Pedestal - Also known as the deck support. Plank - Boards that lay across stringers in a deck. Runner - A long stretch of board, laid out in parallel rows with other runners. They support planks laid out perpendicular across the runners. Also called a "stringer". Shim - A thin piece of material (often tapered) used to fill in space between things (for support, leveling, or adjustment of fit) Slope to Drain - The practice of sloping a surface to assist in water drainage. In the U.S., this us usually 1/4" per foot slope. Stringer - A long stretch of board, laid out in parallel rows with other stringers. They support planks laid out perpendicular across the stringers. Also called a "runner". Take Off - The process of determining the number of pedestals you need for a deck. Tile - Usually made of wood or composite material. It is simply a square of surfacing material that is installed using Bison Deck Supports. |
